Famous magician In history

Rabu, 16 September 2009 0 komentar

It's said that everyone stands on the shoulders of their predecessors. This is certainly the case with the art of magic. Here then, are biographies of famous magicians from throughout history.
1. Harry Houdini

Harry Houdini is remembered for his legendary escapes; showmanship and promotion; the loss of his mother and attempts to reach her through spiritualism; his frustration with mediums and exposure of their methods and his death on Halloween with the storied promise that if anyone could find a way back from the dead, it would be Houdini. All of these aspects continue to contribute to his myth and memory.

2. Robert-Houdin

A mid-nineteenth century artist who is fondly recalled as "the father of modern magic," Frenchman Robert-Houdin was a decided force in magic. His professional magic career only spanned some 11 years, but his influence on magic was timeless.

3. Doug Henning

In the 1970s and 80s, Doug Henning was not only the best known magician in the world, he is often credited as reviving magic as a popular theatrical art form. Sadly, he left magic at the height of his career and died in 2000 at the age of 52.

4. Harry Blackstone, Sr.

In the 1930's, Blackstone was the most popular magician in North America - a rival to Houdini late in the escape artist's career, as well as to Thurston. His professional career spanned some 65 years. His son, Harry Blackstone Jr., would later carry on the family's magic tradition with an elaborate stage show of his own in the seventies and eighties. The Coin Vanishing

Selasa, 08 September 2009 0 komentar

Hold a coin at the tips of your fingers in one of your hands.

Bring your other hand over to grab the coin.

Before your hand grabs the coin, release the coin from the tips of your fingers and let it fall into the base of your fingers.

Continue with the motion of the “grabbing” hand and act as if you have actually taken the coin with it. In reality, the coin remains in the original hand.

Take the hand away as if it holds the coin. From this point, you can blow on the empty hand and seemingly make the coin disappear-just open your hand. And then you can make the coin reappear by reaching into your pocket with your coin-laden hand and “pulling” out the coin.

Before you perform this, make sure you that you check out the move in a mirror to be sure that the coin is not seen in your hand. Also, try to aim for a natural, unrushed style as you “grab” the coin. The best way to do this is to watch your hands in a mirror as you actually grab the coin and take it away. And then perform the coin vanish where you don’t grab the coin, but make it look as if you have. This well-known coin vanish is known to magicians as “The French Drop.” Read the full story

The Reversed Card

Effect: The spectator selects a card and places it back into the deck. After placing the deck behind your back and bringing it out again, the selected card is shown to have reversed itself in the deck.

Secret:
You have secretly reversed the top card so the deck looks as if it’s face-down when it’s really face-up. When the spectator places his or her card back into the deck, the selected card is reversed and facing the other way.

When noone is around, prepare the deck by reversing the bottom card so it’s facing the other way. Note that the picture above is strictly for explanation. As you perform the trick, the spectator should never notice that the bottom card is reversed.

Take out the deck and spread the face-down cards so the spectator may choose one. Be careful that you don’t show the bottom card that is reversed and facing the other way.

When the spectator is looking at the card and showing it to other people, casually turn the deck over so the reversed card is on top. As long as you hold the deck together without spreading the cards, it will look as if the deck is face down.

The picture above is for demonstration purposes only. It shows the current orientation of the deck in your hands. The top card is the only one that’s face down and the rest of the deck is face up.
Keeping the deck together and without spreading it, shove the selected card back into the deck. Be careful that you don’t show that the other cards are reversed.

It should look as if the card when into a face-down deck when in reality, the card went face-down into a face-up deck (with the exception of the top card).

Put the deck behind your back and secretly turn over the top card. The selected card is now the only one in the deck that is facing the other way.

6. Bring out the face-up deck and spread the cards. When you reach the only card that is face down, you can slowly turn it over to reveal the spectator’s chosen card.

Practice the trick until you can smoothly perform it. Never repeat a trick. Read the full story
